The Philadelphia Soul are the champions of ArenaBowl XXII!

What does this mean for us?

No, not that Philly’s drought of 100 championship-less seasons is over. That only counts for the Phils, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers.

This is why you must love journalists. During an interview a few weeks ago, Jon Bon Jovi himself promised that should the Soul win ArenaBowl, he would perform a free concert in Philadelphia, like he did in NYC recently.

He was “on the record” when he said it. So should this concert not happen, expect uproar.

Comcast-Spectacor announced this morning, “This will be the final year of the Spectrum.”

They should at least give us 10 years to grieve after losing another beloved Philadelphia landmark. Yes, I speak of the razed Veterans Stadium. That video is still tough to watch.

The Spectrum is outta here to make way for a huge entertainment complex, likely to include restaurants, shops, a hotel and much more.

It’s been dwarfed by its cousins in recent years, which began with the building of the Wachovia Center in 1996. The Linc and Citizens Bank Park just make its 18,000-person capacity seem miniscule. But it’s history that matters.

The Flyers and 76ers called the building home from 1967 to 1996 before moving to the Wachovia Center. The Flyers won their first Stanley Cup there in 1974, and the Sixers hosted many playoff and finals games inside, also.

Don’t worry. I’ll link the YouTube video that shows the demolition as soon as I can. Granted, it’ll be in 2009, so cherish this final year, will you?

This 20-page photo slideshow allows us to relive the past missteps, mishaps and misery of the past 100 seasons of the four big teams – Phillies, Sixers, Flyers and Eagles.

It truly is an embarrassing thing to view, chronicling 25 years of Philadelphia sports blunders. Apparently, that’s a record for a four-sports town.

Just like the Phils’ 10,000th loss last year – this is only one more milestone to check off the list.
