You see him at 9 a.m. on ABC. You see him at Commerce Bank. And you see him in your heart.
Apparently, according to this AP article, he’s the “happiest man in television.” And at 76 years old and after almost 50 years on television, I’d say he has the right to that title.
Pay special attention to how the writer of the article emphasizes the crucial syllables of particular words, just as Regis said them.
Like him or hate him, you have to respect him.
One of the things I like most about the Reg is that he keeps on truckin’. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 10 years since he reformed game shows with Who Wants to be a Millionaire?. I still remember the first millionaire, John Carpenter. Call me a nerd. But it’s true.
I respect Reg so much that he made my highly contested list of the 10 best game show hosts of all time, coming in at No. 9.
But since Millionaire, he’s filled in for Dick Clark on New Year’s Eve, he hosted the first season of America’s Got Talent, and now he’s going to host CBS’s version of Million Dollar Password.
He’s earned the title of living legend, beloved host and, most importantly, one of Cut to the Chase’s top 10.
When you’ve got it, you’ve got it. And after 76 years, the Reg still got it.

Without American Idol, television really suffers.
The finale last week, which I’m still reeling over, was the highest-rated show for the week according to Nielsen ratings. Its nearest competitor (outside of the performance show the night before) was Dancing with the Stars, which garnered just more than 20 million viewers.
AI probably had the most viewers TV will see until the fall.
All the success this year actually made Fox the most-watched television network, beating out the ‘big three.’ It’s the first time the network has received that honor. It only took 21 years. But doesn’t it always?
Yet it still doesn’t seem right to me they had to cut Back to You. And now, Kelsey Grammer is making what I regrettably see as a stupid move in a new to-be-shortlived ABC comedy, Roman’s Empire. You read it here first on chris-stover.com.
The summer season never attracts big viewers. And rightly so. Have you heard of the slated shows? There are some I’m excited about - The Mole, I Survived a Japanese Game Show , Million Dollar Password - and there are some that just deserve to burn in hell, including Moment of Truth.
For a good recap of the 2007-2008 television season, check out this article.
I look forward to the flops that await in the fall.

Tokyo is a very populated place. So much so that people find shelter wherever they can, apparently.
A woman was recently arrested for living in the attic of a man’s house - an area above the closet, of all places - for more than a year. And the poor sap never knew.
She made herself at home - took showers, prepared food. And that’s what made the homeowner suspicious.
What police don’t know - and what will be very interesting to find out - is how the woman lived her daily life. How she left and re-entered the home. And why she continued to return without a pressing fear of getting caught.
Forget monsters in your closet. Check for the occasional Japanese woman.

Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania has a “never-give-up” philosophy on his cancer’s return.
The senator, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2005, has had a recurrence of the lymphoma, which occurs in about 7,500 people in the U.S. each year.
But according to the linked article above, the 78-year-old senator never had the best luck when it comes to diagnoses in the first place. He’s been misdiagnosed on various conditions for years.
What I like about this article is the humanization. It makes him a person rather than a public figure. It gives you his outlook on his cancer treatments.
It’s a surprising and interesting tale definitely worth your read.

For some unknown reason, the media seem to be obsessed with Sex and the City. It seems that every night on the news, you find yet another package on the women’s return.
But the latest package I saw, which just aired on CBS3 tonight, takes a different look.
Tonight, Robin Mackintosh (of all reporters) introduced us to the Men’s Guide to Sex and the City.
His interviews consisted of fans who informed us of all the characters, from Carrie to… OK, so I wasn’t paying so much attention that I learned their names, but give me some credit.
It’s a funny, unusual take what you may have seen before. For the diehard fans, it’s nothing new. In fact, it may be repetitive. But odds are, if you’re a diehard fan, you’re a woman. So this report isn’t really for you in the first place, is it?
Well, unless, of course, you’re not a fan.
But in any case, enjoy this report. And if you don’t, enjoy the fact that Robin Mackintosh is the one with the assignment.

The Philadelphia Police are reporting an increase in robberies in Center City, Philadelphia.
In areas typically considered “safe” and “busy,” like Society Hill, Old City and even City Hall, robberies are on the rise. More than 300 have been reported in the past month. One suspect allegedly said to his victim, “I’ll blow your brains out” at Sixth and Spruce streets.
To keep citizens in the know, the Philadelphia Police have created a Web site that allows you to enter an address or intersection and see a list of crimes committed in that area within a certain time frame.
Click here to check out crime stats for your neighborhood, Center City or otherwise.

I’m scared enough to have my 15-year-old brother on the road next year.
Lilian Cox began driving when she was 8. That was back in 1915.
Cox just renewed her license three months ago, which now expires in 2011. Now, she’s 101. By then, she’ll be 104.
She travels in her 1984 sedan DeVille. She’s had it for 28 years. I’m not sure if you’re familiar, but that’s about 101 in human years, too.
The package linked above is a little corny. For some reason, the guy can’t get over every single car cliche possible - need for speed, owning the road, etc. But at least we get to watch Lilian.

So apparently, Clay Aiken will soon be a proud father.
Seriously, who’d a thought?!
No, the former almost-American Idol isn’t married. Nor does he have a girlfriend. And no, he’s not a pregnant man.
Instead, through artificial insemination, Aiken knocked up his 40-something producer friend who he lives with when he’s in the Los Angeles area.
Any thoughts on names yet? Or how about thoughts on an outcome better or worse than Sean Preston Federline?

OK, so I’m a little late in posting this. But it’s still worth posting.
Tuesday was a big night for the Phillies. They had their highest-scoring game since 1999, beating the Colorado Rockies 20-5
On Tuesday, Jamie Moyer won his 235th game. But that’s not the only milestone from that night…
He became the oldest Phillie to get a hit at the age of 45. But that’s not the most of it…
Jamie Moyer, who will be turning 46 in November, has officially beaten every team in Major League Baseball.
It must be that 73 mph fastball, right?

The last time an event like this happened was after Sept. 11, 2001.
The three major networks - CBS, NBC and ABC - will all team up on Sept. 5, 2008, to raise money for cancer research and patient advocacy. All three nets will simultaneously broadcast an hour of commercial-free programming featuring stars and recording artists.
All three network anchors will formally announce this collaboration on their respective morning shows: Katie Couric on the CBS Early Show, Brian Williams on Today and Charles Gibson on Good Morning America.
The event is sponsoring Stand Up To Cancer, a cancer fundraising drive.
Personally, I cannot wait for this event. It will be monumental - three major competitors are collaborating to fight a disease affecting millions. And there’s no doubt it can make a difference.
So watch. You have no excuse not to - you have more than three months to schedule.
