Behind the Byline: Primary coverage April 23, 2008

As I stood in the balcony of the Bellevue ballroom last night, a surreal feeling came over me. In the past six weeks, I’ve been complaining more and more about the amount of political coverage I’ve been doing with partner-in-crime LeAnne Matlach. It all culminated with the Democratic debate last Wednesday…the debate we almost covered.

But last night was different than here, here, here, here and here. As I saw Hillary, President Bill Clinton and Chelsea on stage with all supporters - including Mayor Michael Nutter and Gov. Ed Rendell - I realized I won’t be covering something like this again for a long time - if at all.

Covering politics is tiring…I don’t understand how CNN reporter Candy Crowley does it day after day.  And here I am, a college journalist following around the presidential candidates like a groupie.  But being in attendance last night made me grateful for the career path I’ve chosen and the people I’ve seen and met along the way.

Until November, adios, Hillary.
